With each of my group of friends, we always had some characteristic and fun sounds that we wanted to be able to find somewhere easily.

I first created a soundbox app back in 2020 with 

. The only viable way to connect it to an online source was with Airtable, so I went with it.

It worked great ! But as the time went by, more and more of my friend were using an iPhone and therefore had no access to the app anymore. In addition, Thunkable has become a 100% paid service, and the API key system of Airtable used by Thunkable were going to be deprecated.

As I didn't want to bother myself to pay for an Apple developper account to try to make my weird apps available on the app store, the solution was to create a Progressive Web App.

I've kept using Airtable because it was where my data was, and it also allowed me to grant access to my friends to they can directly manage the sounds. It ended up being a terrible choice. More on that later.

The REST API provided by Airtable is great. Within 2 hours, the app was complete. I then added configuration options to be able to create multiple soundboxes from this one project. 

While Airtable was great for it's ease of use, it is not a great technical choice for this project.

Triggers on updates were a paid option, so caching server generated pages that were revalidated on change were not possible. Too bad for a project that could have made great use of the server side generation.

The user limit for editing data was quickly reached.

Airtable generates a temporary URL for each image, lasting for approx 90 min. The Next.js image optimization had to run every time the image url changed. As a result, I quickly crossed the image optimization limit of my Vercel account, now having no image at all.

I haven't had time to make the change for the moment, but it could be a great opportunity to create my own admin panel to manage content and granting access to other users.

Today, it's possible to invite external participants (who don't have a Rainbow account) to a chat and start a call with them. However, this only works through a public link available to consult the conversation. There is no way to truly invite someone by their email and plan a meeting with them.

HybridPlanner allows you to invite your Rainbow contacts as well as guests by their emails when planning a meeting. Guests will automatically receive reminder emails and a link to a waiting page. When the meeting starts, the conversation is automatically created, the call is initiated, and guests in the waiting rooms are added to the call.

On January 19, 2024, we went to the company headquarters to pitch our project in front of +200 ALE employees.

It was a real challenge to recreate this mythic game in C.

We have created a big sprite sheet, where we 'blit' parts of it on the window. We added sound to make the game more immersive.

We also implemented the custom behaviors of each ghost. 

 covering the game mechanism in depth was incredibly helpful.

Since 2021, we take part in the "Nuit de l'info" (can be translated ot computer night) where we have to create a full web project until the sunrise. We've created a website to track our creations and our realisations.

This website is completely server side generated with Next.js 14 App directory and the content is managed with .mdx files.

Players must compete against each other to scan as much product as possible in a limited time. They share the same shopping list and the same products. The player who scans the most products wins.

Each player in the Livl store share the same product list. When a player scan a product, it is removed from the list. When a product is scanned, it is marked as "Out of stock" for some times.

When a player scan a product, he win one point. If he scan the wrong product, he loose one point.

This is a multiplayer game, but you can also play in solo if you do not have any Livl fan friends around you.

We are providing client for both Windows, Linux and MacOS operating system.

There were 0 concessions made in following the SOLID and Clean Code principles, as well as C++ const correctness.

Every new feature has been added incrementally.

At first, we had to create a simple Tic Tac Toe console game, without knowing what it would become later. We had then to add a GUI with Qt along with the different games.

We spent some sleepless nights on this project ...

Livl Board Games ♟️

 is a local association from my birthplace that organises events to support research against cancer, in which my mother is a volunteer.

During spring 2022, they were organising a big after work in one of the biggest parks of the city, and they needed a solution to cash drinks and food consumptions.

In a few days, I've created a simple & intuitive app to allow volunteers to take visitors' orders in an instant. I've also created a simple admin space where available products and prices can be edited.

To avoid forcing all volunteers to install an application, i've decided to deploy it as a web application instead of a native android app on Play Store.

The event was a success and the app worked very well 🎉

It was the last project of my University diploma of technology in computer sciences. It was a special one since we only had 72h from the reveal of the subject to the project presentation in front of the whole class.

We wanted to end on a high note, so we decided to live together at my home during the time of the project and to work non-stop. It was an amazing experience that we will never forget.

Several thesis students came to present their subjects to us, and we had to choose one of them. We chose the "Producers and consumers: market mechanisms in a changing context".

 where the user has to manage a bakery while breaking news is changing the price and availability of raw materials. And to make it even more fun, we made it multiplayer.

Nobody in our group had already made a multiplayer app before. But thanks to 

 that watched hours of YouTube tutorials, we had a Node.js server running with Socket.IO that was up and working. 

In reality, we only had approx. 35h to actually develop the project from the moment we've chosen our subject and the presentation. I remeber having slept less than 4h during this whole time.

I mainly worked on the UI and event system.

As well as having a memorable experience, we were all super proud of what we built in such a short amount of time, with technologies that were completely new to us.

The presentation in front of the whole class was not far from failure. Some people that knew the app URL joined our party and didn't press "Ready", causing the game to never begin. We created a new game and started the game very fast before anyone had time to join, and the demo was a success !

We were free to make anything we wanted that used 3D and a physical engine, so I created a small driving "simulator" game.

It's a visual card game. The player is given a hand of 10 cards made up of symbols representing different phonemes. The game board contains one or more cards representing different parts of a word, which the player must complete using the cards in his or her hand. 

During each round, the player hears the word to be completed, and can listen to it again and again. The player's aim is to reconstruct the word heard, using the cards in his or her hand.

Clicking on a card in the player's hand plays the sound it represents. If the player completes the word correctly, he moves on to the next round. If not, he can either try again as many times as he likes, until he gets it right, or move on to the next word.

A game is played over 5 rounds. The aim is to finish the game as fast as possible.

The player will be able to put himself in the shoes of a dyslexic person who interprets words differently.
At the end of the game, the player will be able to see a summary of the game.

This was our first real web project during my university diploma of technology in computer science. It was also our first time trying React.js.

We first made some game prototypes. We didn't have much difficulty finding an interesting concept. Here is an early prototype.

I followed the Getting Started guide on the old React.js docs (using Class components at the time) and made a simple admin panel :

When implementing the game itself, we discovered React Hooks. While we didn't understand much of what it was at first, we ended up loving using them and made the whole app with them.

It was a pleasure to work on this project and we even implemented an online leaderboard. It was very well received by other students.

Morphocards ✍️

During COVID, the matches of my local handball team were played behind closed doors. I was in charge of broadcasting matches on social networks. 

I've created an online live scoreboard of the match to be able to display the time and score of the match in the live video. However, there are different states of the scoreboard.

Instead of trying to guess what the displayed overlay should be according to the time in my scoreboard app, I've created this small tool that allows me to change the overlay with a simple click in OBS.

In addition, the French Handball league gives URL to display match statistics on a big screen. They provide a special admin page where you can copy screens URL. So, in addition to button controlled views, i've also added a text-input controlled view to switch between these screens with a simple copy-paste.

Note that this was my first Node.js project and one of my first in javascript. The code might be very messy and contains English and French. However, I've used it in real livestreams for more thant a year without ever encountering any problems.

This was our first real project during my University Diploma of Technology in Computer Science. 

The usage of .NET Framework without plugins, Winforms and GIT was imposed.

At the time, nobody in the team knew how to use git, so it was quite a challenge to collaborate on this project. I've sometimes lost some of my work because of git conflicts.

It was also the first time we had to make a GUI. I wanted it to be as ergonomic and clean as possible despite the project constraint seemed to have been made especially to design something ugly.

I took care of the whole app UI, while the rest of the group worked on algorithms, email sending, pdf report generation and data management.

We were pretty happy with the result, and our project presentation went well.

Since 2018, I've volunteered with Sélestat Alsace Handball (SAHB), a notable French handball club shifting between the first and second national divisions. In response to the 2020 curfew, my friends and I volunteered to livestream matches on the club's social media. Starting with minimal resources, we improvised a solution using my laptop and a budget camcorder.

I wanted a solution to broadcast the match statistics live, while following the official league design. There was no way to connect to the sport hall system, or to fetch data from the league website because of the delay.

I haven't found any satisfying solution, so I created my custom live scoreboard app, where someone is updating the scoreboard live using a web interface on his smartphone.

I went on with Flutter (Web) and Firebase since it was technologies that I was knowing well at the time and I had a short time span to make something functional. 

I wanted the UX to be very straightforward as I didn't have time to explain to the person in charge of the score how it works while I had to prepare the whole broadcast.

For the first time, my software was really used in a "production" context. Despite the quality of the code not being up to the mark at the time, the solution was faultlessly reliable and served us well throughout the broadcasting of the matches.

Having a web interface available on mobile was great because I could just tell anyone that had to update the score during the match to open his phone browser and use the provided login and that was it.

These are not things that I plan to implement anymore since there is no more live broadcasts.

Using directly Firestore as the server, the client had to send an update to the timer every second. That meant 2 major problems :

- If the user left the browser for a few seconds, the time stops updating

- There were conflicts if 2 people were trying to control the scoreboard at the same time.

Theses problems can be easily fixed by using some sort of server.

I started this project in 2018 when I discovered 

, a no-code Android app building platform. I quickly rolled out the first version in two months, and it gained popularity in the Kodular community, boosting my involvement in it.

Over the next six months, I worked on a more ambitious v2 that was well-received for its cool features. After a few updates and a growing community, I wanted to take it to the next level. I brainstormed a bunch of ideas and created prototypes, but it got tricky to keep up. 

The concepts kept changing, and the platform wasn't really built for such a big project. It's now unavailable for download due to changes in Android SDK targets and Kodular policies.

Even today, fans reach out with messages and ideas. While the project is on pause, there's a chance I might revisit it one day. This project is a big part of my programming journey, and I might share its story in an article soon.
